MSC Reminder Re: Smoking / Vaping at Facility
Over the recent months, we have seen an increase in complaints regarding smoking and vaping near Moore Sports Complex entrances and exits.
We would like to remind all user groups that the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, 2017 prohibits the smoking of tobacco, the use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) to vape any substance, and the smoking of cannabis (medical or recreational) in enclosed workplaces and enclosed public places, as well as other designated places in Ontario, to protect workers and the public from second-hand smoke and vapour.
Enforcement Officers with Lambton Public Health have been notified and violations of the Act could result in charges against members of your group. Charges could result in fines ranging from $305 - $1000 for a first-time offence.
To help protect the health and safety of all users of Moore Sports Complex, please communicate to all members of your group that:
• You cannot smoke or vape on children’s playgrounds or public areas within 20 metres of children’s playgrounds.
• You cannot smoke or vape on the outdoor grounds of a community recreational facility and any public areas within 20 metres of its grounds.
- A community recreational facility is an enclosed public place or enclosed workplace that offers athletic and recreational programs to the local community and is owned or operated by:
a not-for-profit corporation
an organization registered as a charity
the province
a municipality
• You also cannot smoke or vape on publicly owned sporting areas, their fan/viewing areas, and public areas within 20 metres of these places.
- “Publicly owned” means that the sporting area is owned by a municipality, the province or a post-secondary education institution. Golf courses are excluded from this restriction.
• You cannot smoke or vape in any public or private schools:
- Indoor space
- Outdoor grounds, including playgrounds and sports fields
- Public areas within 20 metres of the school’s grounds
Thank you for your help in ensuring the health and safety of your community.
